A 30-year-old San Martin man died on the scene of a car crash this morning on Highway 25, near U.S. 101 according to the California Highway Patrol.
At 5:40 a.m. an 81-year-old man from Saratoga was driving northbound in a Jeep SUV and for unknown, crossed the double yellow line to the southbound side of the highway and hit a Plymouth Breeze head-on and sideswiped two other vehicles traveling northbound, according to CHP officer T. Lopez.
The driver of the Jeep was transported by air to a local hospital, and the passenger of the Plymouth was taken to the hospital via ambulance. The dispatcher did not know the extent of their injuries.
The initial reports of the accident came in at 5:42 a.m., with reports of as many as six cars involved in the collision. Fire trucks and paramedics arrived on scene to deal with multiple injuries, with CHP reporting a fatality. Officers decided to fully close the road at 6 a.m. for an estimated two hours. They put up a Sigalert board notifying southbound drivers on Hwy. 101 of the closure and advising them to take an alternative route. Westbound drivers on Hwy. 25 were diverted onto Shore Road, while eastbound drivers were also rerouted before Bloomfield Road.
