Flash flood warnings have been issued for parts of Monterey County as a morning storm continues to sweep through Northern California.

San Benito County was expected to have up to an inch in some parts of the county, with flooding possible. The weather channel’s report estimated the city of Hollister would see about .65 inches of rain with the morning storm. The storm is expected to continue through midday, with rain off and on throughout the afternoon. Showers are likely on Saturday, with heavy rainfall starting up again on Sunday morning.

Hollister also had .21 inches of rain on Wednesday, according to reports from the University of California Cooperative Extension.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for parts of Monterey County until 10:30 a.m. It includes the cities of Tassajara Hot Springs, Jamesburg, Big Sur Village, Pico Blanco Campground and Andrew Molera State Park. The high terrain area of the county had already received two to four inches of rain by 9:25 a.m.

The National Weather Service, in its alert reminded residents throughout the Bay Area and Central Coast to be aware that runoff from heavy rainfall will cause localized flooding in small creeks and streams as well as roadways, through underpasses and other low lying spots.

They encouraged residents not to cross swiftly flowing water or water of unknown depth. Flooding should be reported to local law enforcement who will relay the message to the National Weather Service Forecast office.
